- Charity: An agency, institution, or organization in existence and operating for the benefit of an indefinite number of persons and conducted for educational, religious, scientific, medical, or other beneficent purposes.
The Louisiana Department of Health is hereby authorized and directed to establish and operate clinics in cooperation with the medical schools of Louisiana State University and Tulane University for the treatment of sickle cell anemia, in Charity Hospital of Louisiana in New Orleans and in Louisiana State Medical Center in Shreveport. The clinics shall be maintained for the treatment of victims of sickle cell anemia regardless of geographic and economic family situation without regard to the standard eligibility requirements of charity hospitals and for the training of physicians and medical students in methods of treatment and for research into the causes of the disease and its cure.
