- Jurisdiction: (1) The legal authority of a court to hear and decide a case. Concurrent jurisdiction exists when two courts have simultaneous responsibility for the same case. (2) The geographic area over which the court has authority to decide cases.
- Public officer: is a ny person holding a public office in this state. See Louisiana Revised Statutes 42:1
Whenever the court of competent jurisdiction declares that any public officer, whose office is established by the constitution, has forfeited his office, within contemplation of La. Rev. Stat. 42:72, the governor shall fill such office by appointment under the laws providing for filling vacancies in public offices.
