Domestic corporations, except those provided for in La. Rev. Stat. 45:61, organized with power of building, constructing and operating canals for irrigation, for the transportation of freight and passengers, and for the development of hydro-electric power for lawful uses and purposes, or either of them, have the right to expropriate rights of way for these canals, and for telegraph, telephone, and hydro-electric lines, incident to the conduction, operation and maintenance of these canals, and lands for reservoirs, dam sites, and dykes, forming a part of the irrigation canal and hydro-electric system.
