Terms Used In Louisiana Revised Statutes 48:1702

  • Commission: shall mean the Bi-State Corridor Commission. See Louisiana Revised Statutes 48:1701
  • Contract: A legal written agreement that becomes binding when signed.
  • Department: shall mean the Department of Transportation and Development. See Louisiana Revised Statutes 48:1701
  • Highway: shall mean a route, which shall run from Many, Louisiana, in Sabine Parish through Lockesbury, Arkansas, to the Oklahoma state line, as presently located and any improvement or extension thereof within the boundaries of the commission. See Louisiana Revised Statutes 48:1701
  • Jurisdiction: (1) The legal authority of a court to hear and decide a case. Concurrent jurisdiction exists when two courts have simultaneous responsibility for the same case. (2) The geographic area over which the court has authority to decide cases.
  • Project: shall mean the construction, expansion, improvement, or extension of a route which shall run from Many, Louisiana, in Sabine Parish through Lockesbury, Arkansas, to the Oklahoma state line, including the four-lane improvements or any portion thereof within the boundaries of the district; the construction of bridges, overpasses, causeways, underpasses, traffic circles, interchanges, and landscaping relating thereto; and the long-term economic/industrial development and tourism development of the corridor area. A.  The Bi-State Corridor Commission is hereby created.  The jurisdiction of the commission shall be comprised of all territory within the geographical boundaries of the parishes of Bienville, Red River, Sabine, and Webster.  

B.  The commission shall not have the power or authority to contract for or perform any of the work involved in the construction of any highway project.  Such work shall be performed by or through the authority of the department.
