Terms Used In Louisiana Revised Statutes 9:5602

  • Contract: A legal written agreement that becomes binding when signed.
  • Corporation: A legal entity owned by the holders of shares of stock that have been issued, and that can own, receive, and transfer property, and carry on business in its own name.
  • Damages: Money paid by defendants to successful plaintiffs in civil cases to compensate the plaintiffs for their injuries.

The following actions are prescribed by one year:

(1)  Those for the enforcement of any contract entered into with the municipal corporation of New Orleans for work and labor to be performed, reckoning from the expiration of the time within which the contract was required to be performed.

(2)  Those for the recovery of damages in favor of the contractors for breach of any such contract on the part of such municipal corporation, reckoning from the day the damages are alleged to have arisen.
