- Adjournment sine die: The end of a legislative session "without day." These adjournments are used to indicate the final adjournment of an annual or the two-year session of legislature.
- Boll weevil: means any Anthonomus grandis Boheman in any stage of development. See Louisiana Revised Statutes 3:1603
- Caucus: From the Algonquian Indian language, a caucus meant "to meet together." An informal organization of members of the legislature that exists to discuss issues of mutual concern and possibly to perform legislative research and policy planning for its members. There are regional, political or ideological, ethnic, and economic-based caucuses.
- Certificate: means a document issued or authorized by the commissioner indicating that a regulated article is not contaminated with boll weevils. See Louisiana Revised Statutes 3:1603
- Coastal zone: means the coastal zone boundary as defined in Louisiana Revised Statutes 49:214.61
- Commission: means the Louisiana Boll Weevil Eradication Commission established in this Part. See Louisiana Revised Statutes 3:1603
- Commissioner: means the commissioner of the Department of Agriculture and Forestry, or his duly authorized designee. See Louisiana Revised Statutes 3:1603
- Cotton: means any cotton plant or cotton plant product upon which the boll weevil is dependent for completion of any portion of its life cycle. See Louisiana Revised Statutes 3:1603
- Cotton producer: means any person who is actively and directly engaged in the production, planting, growing, or farming of cotton for market, or otherwise actively causing cotton to be produced for market. See Louisiana Revised Statutes 3:1603
- Department: means the Louisiana Department of Agriculture and Forestry. See Louisiana Revised Statutes 3:1603
- Department: means the Coastal Protection and Restoration Authority or its successor. See Louisiana Revised Statutes 49:214.61
- Eradication zone: means any area or areas of the state, designated by the commissioner, where boll weevil eradication programs will be undertaken. See Louisiana Revised Statutes 3:1603
- Federal Reserve System: The central bank of the United States. The Fed, as it is commonly called, regulates the U.S. monetary and financial system. The Federal Reserve System is composed of a central governmental agency in Washington, D.C. (the Board of Governors) and twelve regional Federal Reserve Banks in major cities throughout the United States. Source: OCC
- fiscal agent bank: means any bank selected and designated by the Interim Emergency Board for deposit of state funds by the treasurer and other elected state officials or any department, board, commission, or institution of the state. See Louisiana Revised Statutes 49:319
- Forgery: The fraudulent signing or alteration of another's name to an instrument such as a deed, mortgage, or check. The intent of the forgery is to deceive or defraud. Source: OCC
- Host: means any plant or plant product upon which the boll weevil is dependent for completion of any portion of its life cycle. See Louisiana Revised Statutes 3:1603
- Indemnification: In general, a collateral contract or assurance under which one person agrees to secure another person against either anticipated financial losses or potential adverse legal consequences. Source: FDIC
- Infested: means actually infested with a boll weevil or so exposed to infestation that it would be reasonable to believe that an infestation exists. See Louisiana Revised Statutes 3:1603
- Move: means to ship, offer for shipment, deposit for transmission by mail, receive for transportation, carry, or otherwise transport, move or allow to be moved. See Louisiana Revised Statutes 3:1603
- Noncommercial cotton: means any cotton intended for purposes other than processing, including but not limited to cotton planted for ornamental purposes and volunteer cotton. See Louisiana Revised Statutes 3:1603
- Permit: means a document issued or authorized by the commissioner to provide for the movement of regulated articles to restricted designations for limited handling, utilization, or processing. See Louisiana Revised Statutes 3:1603
- Person: means any individual, firm, company, corporation, partnership, society, association, or other business or public entity. See Louisiana Revised Statutes 3:1603
- Presiding officer: A majority-party Senator who presides over the Senate and is charged with maintaining order and decorum, recognizing Members to speak, and interpreting the Senate's rules, practices and precedents.
- Property: means the servitude of use, easement or right-of-way over, through, along and across immovable property necessary to establish, maintain or operate a project for barrier island preservation, restoration, or creation for coastal wetlands purposes, including rights of ingress and egress to public or private areas on which such projects are being established, maintained or operated. - Regulated article: means any article of any character carrying or capable of carrying the boll weevil, including but not limited to cotton plants, seed cotton, cottonseed, other hosts, gin trash, gin equipment, mechanical cotton pickers, and other equipment associated with cotton production, harvesting, or processing. - State depositing authority: as used in this Chapter means the state treasurer, and other elected state officials or any department, board, commission, or institution of the state; and "depository" or "fiscal agent bank" means any bank selected and designated by the Interim Emergency Board for deposit of state funds by the treasurer and other elected state officials or any department, board, commission, or institution of the state.
