- Actuarial equivalent: shall mean a benefit of equal value when computed upon the basis of such mortality tables as shall be adopted by the board of trustees, and regular interest. See Louisiana Revised Statutes 11:1581
- Agency: as used in this Chapter shall have the same meaning ascribed to it as provided in Louisiana Revised Statutes 39:1556
- Agriculture: means the commercial planting, growing, harvesting, production, storage, processing, marketing, distribution, or export of any agricultural product, including but not limited to farm products, livestock and livestock products, poultry and poultry products, milk and dairy products, fruit and other horticultural products, and seafood and aquacultural products. - Amendment: A proposal to alter the text of a pending bill or other measure by striking out some of it, by inserting new language, or both. Before an amendment becomes part of the measure, thelegislature must agree to it.
- Annuity: A periodic (usually annual) payment of a fixed sum of money for either the life of the recipient or for a fixed number of years. A series of payments under a contract from an insurance company, a trust company, or an individual. Annuity payments are made at regular intervals over a period of more than one full year.

- average final compensation: shall mean the average monthly compensation earned by an employee during any period of sixty successive months of service as an employee during which the earned compensation was the highest. See Louisiana Revised Statutes 11:1581
- Beneficiary: A person who is entitled to receive the benefits or proceeds of a will, trust, insurance policy, retirement plan, annuity, or other contract. Source: OCC
- Beneficiary: shall mean any person designated to receive a pension, an annuity, a retirement allowance or other benefit as provided by this Chapter. See Louisiana Revised Statutes 11:1581
- Bequest: Property gifted by will.
- Board: means the board of commissioners of the Acadiana Regional Juvenile Justice District. See Louisiana Revised Statutes 15:1109
- Board of Trustees: shall mean the Board provided for in Louisiana Revised Statutes 11:1581
- Bonds: means any bond, refunding bond, note, debenture, interim certificate or any bond, grant, or any other evidences of indebtedness of the corporation whether in temporary or in definitive form and whether or not exempt from federal taxation. See Louisiana Revised Statutes 51:2303
- Broadband data maps: means the maps created in accordance with the provisions of Louisiana Revised Statutes 51:2370.22
- Broadband service: means deployed internet access service with a minimum of one hundred megabits per second (Mbps) download and at least twenty megabits per second upload transmission speeds. See Louisiana Revised Statutes 51:2370.2
- Broadband service: means deployed mass-market retail internet access service with a minimum of one hundred megabits per second, or Mbps, download and at least twenty megabits per second upload transmission speeds. See Louisiana Revised Statutes 51:2370.22
- Broadband-serviceable location: means a business or residential location in the United States at which fixed broadband internet access service is, or can be, installed. See Louisiana Revised Statutes 51:2370.22
- Cattle: means all bovine animals, regardless of age, including calves. See Louisiana Revised Statutes 3:2053
- Chief procurement officer: means the person holding the position created in Louisiana Revised Statutes 39:1556
- Commission: means the Acadiana Regional Juvenile Justice District Commission. See Louisiana Revised Statutes 15:1109
- consulting service: includes the procurement of supplies and services by a contractor without the necessity of complying with provisions of the Louisiana Procurement Code when such supplies and services are either for insurance procured directly by a licensed insurance producer pursuant to Louisiana Revised Statutes 39:1556
- Contract: means all types of state agreements, regardless of what they may be called, including orders and documents purporting to represent grants, which are for the purchase or disposal of supplies, services, major repairs, or any other item. See Louisiana Revised Statutes 39:1556
- Contractor: means any person having a contract with a governmental body. See Louisiana Revised Statutes 39:1556
- Conviction: A judgement of guilt against a criminal defendant.
- Cooperative: means a corporation organized under Part I of Chapter 2 of Title 12 of the Louisiana Revised Statutes of 1950 or a corporation who becomes subject to those provisions pursuant to Louisiana Revised Statutes 51:2370.2

- Eligible grant recipient: means a provider of broadband service, including a provider operated by a local government if the local government is compliant with the Local Government Fair Competition Act prior to July 1, 2021, with respect to providing such services, a cooperative, or any partnership thereof. - Employee: shall mean any district attorney of the state of Louisiana, or any assistant district attorney in any parish of the state of Louisiana. See Louisiana Revised Statutes 11:1581
- Employer: shall mean any parish in the state of Louisiana; the state of Louisiana, or the police jury or any other governing body of a parish or political corporation or subdivision of the state of Louisiana which employs and pays persons as district attorneys or assistant district attorneys. - Enforceable commitment: means any location that is already subject to a legally enforceable federal, state, or local commitment to deploy broadband. See Louisiana Revised Statutes 51:2370.22
- Equitable: Pertaining to civil suits in "equity" rather than in "law." In English legal history, the courts of "law" could order the payment of damages and could afford no other remedy. See damages. A separate court of "equity" could order someone to do something or to cease to do something. See, e.g., injunction. In American jurisprudence, the federal courts have both legal and equitable power, but the distinction is still an important one. - Ex officio: Literally, by virtue of one's office.
- Fiscal year: The fiscal year is the accounting period for the government. For the federal government, this begins on October 1 and ends on September 30. The fiscal year is designated by the calendar year in which it ends; for example, fiscal year 2006 begins on October 1, 2005 and ends on September 30, 2006.

- Gift: A voluntary transfer or conveyance of property without consideration, or for less than full and adequate consideration based on fair market value.
- Guardian: A person legally empowered and charged with the duty of taking care of and managing the property of another person who because of age, intellect, or health, is incapable of managing his (her) own affairs.
- Household: means any individual or group of individuals who are living together at the same address as one economic unit. See Louisiana Revised Statutes 51:2370.2

- Labor demand occupation: means an occupation for which there is or is likely to be a greater demand than supply of adequately trained workers. See Louisiana Revised Statutes 51:2332
- Liabilities: The aggregate of all debts and other legal obligations of a particular person or legal entity.
- Local government: means a parish, municipality, or school board, or any instrumentality thereof. See Louisiana Revised Statutes 51:2370.2

- Obligation: An order placed, contract awarded, service received, or similar transaction during a given period that will require payments during the same or a future period.

- Program: means the Workforce Development and Training Program. See Louisiana Revised Statutes 51:2332

- Prospective broadband recipient: means a household, home, business, educational facility, healthcare facility, community anchor point, agricultural operation, or agricultural processing facility that is currently unserved and is identified in an application submitted in accordance with this Subpart. - Real property: Land, and all immovable fixtures erected on, growing on, or affixed to the land.
- Regular interest: shall mean interest compounded annually at such a rate as shall be determined by the board of trustees in accordance with Louisiana Revised Statutes 11:1581
- Remainder: An interest in property that takes effect in the future at a specified time or after the occurrence of some event, such as the death of a life tenant.
- Request for proposals: means all documents, whether attached or incorporated by reference, utilized for soliciting proposals in accordance with the procedures set forth in this Chapter. See Louisiana Revised Statutes 39:1556
- Retirement: shall mean withdrawal from active service with a retirement allowance granted under the provisions of this Chapter. See Louisiana Revised Statutes 11:1581
- Retirement allowance: shall mean the sum of the "annuity" and the "employers' annuity" or any optional benefit payable in lieu thereof. See Louisiana Revised Statutes 11:1581
- Retirement System: shall mean the District Attorneys' Retirement System as defined in Louisiana Revised Statutes 11:1581
- Revenues: means any and all fees, rates, rentals, profits, and receipts collected by, payable to, or otherwise derived by the corporation and all other moneys and income of whatsoever kind or character collected by, payable to, or otherwise derived by the corporation in connection with loans to any eligible small business in furtherance of the purposes of this Chapter. - Service: shall mean service rendered as an employee as described in Paragraph (10) of this Section. See Louisiana Revised Statutes 11:1581
- Services: means the furnishing of labor, time, or effort by a contractor whose primary purpose is to perform an identifiable task rather than to furnish an end item of supply. See Louisiana Revised Statutes 39:1556
- Shapefile: means a file format for storing, depicting, and analyzing geospatial data depicting broadband coverage, comprised of several component files, such as a Main file (. See Louisiana Revised Statutes 51:2370.2
- Small business incubator: means a multi-tenanted facility which is characterized by shared business services, equipment, space, and access to on-premises business consultants for tenants and which is operated by a private nonprofit or public entity. See Louisiana Revised Statutes 51:2322

- Underserved location: means an underserved location as defined in the IIJA and the BEAD NOFO. See Louisiana Revised Statutes 51:2370.22
- Unserved: means , notwithstanding any other provision of law, any federal funding awarded to or allocated by the state for broadband deployment shall not be used, directly or indirectly, to deploy broadband infrastructure to provide broadband internet service in any area of the state where broadband internet service of at least one hundred megabits per second download and twenty megabits per second upload is available from at least one internet service provider. - Unserved area: means a designated geographic area that is presently without access to broadband service, as defined in this Section, offered by a wireline or fixed wireless provider. See Louisiana Revised Statutes 51:2370.2
- Unserved location: means an unserved location as defined in the IIJA and the BEAD NOFO. See Louisiana Revised Statutes 51:2370.22
- Using agency: means any governmental body of the state which utilizes any supplies, services, or major repairs purchased under this Chapter. See Louisiana Revised Statutes 39:1556
- Venue: The geographical location in which a case is tried.
