Terms Used In Maine Revised Statutes Title 12 Sec. 9703

  • lands: includes lands and all tenements and hereditaments connected therewith, and all rights thereto and interests therein. See Maine Revised Statutes Title 1 Sec. 72
  • Restitution: The court-ordered payment of money by the defendant to the victim for damages caused by the criminal action.
Any person who intentionally or negligently causes a fire that burns forest, brush, grass or other lands or intentionally fails to take reasonable action to control a fire on that person’s own land is liable civilly for restitution of costs incurred by state or municipal government entities in the suppression of that fire, up to the maximum amount of restitution permitted under section 9321.
