1. Appointment. The following provisions apply to the appointment of attendance coordinators.
A. A superintendent shall appoint an attendance coordinator or coordinators. [PL 2011, c. 614, §14 (AMD).]

Terms Used In Maine Revised Statutes Title 20-A Sec. 5052-A
- Department: means the Department of Education. See Maine Revised Statutes Title 20-A Sec. 1
- Principal: means the person who supervises the operation and management of a school and school property as determined necessary by the superintendent under policies established by the school board. See Maine Revised Statutes Title 20-A Sec. 1
- State board: means the State Board of Education. See Maine Revised Statutes Title 20-A Sec. 1
- Superintendent: means the person in a school administrative unit or school union appointed and having the authority and responsibility under this Title and other applicable statutes. See Maine Revised Statutes Title 20-A Sec. 1
- Year: means a calendar year, unless otherwise expressed. See Maine Revised Statutes Title 1 Sec. 72
2. Qualifications. An attendance coordinator must be a professionally certified or registered person in the mental health, social welfare or educational system who is qualified to carry out the duties in accordance with rules to be established by the State Board of Education.

3. Duties. The duties of an attendance coordinator include, but are not limited to, the following:
A. Interviewing a student whose attendance is irregular and meeting with the student and the parents to determine the cause of the irregular attendance and filing a written report with the principal; [PL 2011, c. 614, §14 (AMD).]
B. Filing an annual report with the superintendent summarizing school year activities, findings and recommendations regarding truants; [PL 2007, c. 143, §1 (AMD).]
C. Serving as a member of the dropout prevention committee in accordance with section 5103; and [PL 2007, c. 143, §1 (AMD).]
D. Serving as the liaison between the school and the local law enforcement agency in matters pertaining to student absenteeism under section 5001?A. [PL 2011, c. 614, §14 (AMD).]

4. Department assistance. The department shall provide technical assistance to school attendance coordinators for carrying out these duties, through the Office of Truancy, Dropout Prevention and Alternative Education.
