Terms Used In Maine Revised Statutes > Title 20-A > Part 5 > Chapter 419-A - Maine State Grant Program

  • Adult: means a person who has attained the age of 18 years. See Maine Revised Statutes Title 1 Sec. 72
  • Assets: (1) The property comprising the estate of a deceased person, or (2) the property in a trust account.
  • authority: means the Finance Authority of Maine. See Maine Revised Statutes Title 20-A Sec. 11611
  • Eligible program of study: means a certificate program of at least one year, an associate degree program or a baccalaureate degree program. See Maine Revised Statutes Title 20-A Sec. 11611
  • Grant: means a grant under the Maine State Grant Program authorized under this chapter. See Maine Revised Statutes Title 20-A Sec. 11611
  • Institution of higher education: means an institution of higher education located within this State that meets the requirements of and conforms to the definitions contained in the federal Higher Education Act of 1965, Section 1201, as amended, United States Code, title 20, § 1141; and the federal Higher Education Act of 1965, Section 491, as amended, United States Code, title 20, § 1088; and the regulations, guidelines and procedures promulgated by the Secretary of Education and published in the Federal Register pursuant to these sections of law.   • Jurisdiction: (1) The legal authority of a court to hear and decide a case. Concurrent jurisdiction exists when two courts have simultaneous responsibility for the same case. (2) The geographic area over which the court has authority to decide cases.
  • Partnership: A voluntary contract between two or more persons to pool some or all of their assets into a business, with the agreement that there will be a proportional sharing of profits and losses.
  • Secondary school: means that portion of a school that provides instruction in any combination of grades 9 through 12. See Maine Revised Statutes Title 20-A Sec. 1
  • Student aid index: means a calculation that reflects an evaluation of a student's approximate financial resources to contribute toward the student's postsecondary education for an academic year. See Maine Revised Statutes Title 20-A Sec. 11611
  • Year: means a calendar year, unless otherwise expressed. See Maine Revised Statutes Title 1 Sec. 72
