Terms Used In Maine Revised Statutes Title 23 Sec. 6006
- Corporation: A legal entity owned by the holders of shares of stock that have been issued, and that can own, receive, and transfer property, and carry on business in its own name.
- Railroad: includes every commercial, interurban and other railway and each and every branch and extension thereof by whatsoever power operated, together with all tracks, bridges, trestles, rights-of-way, subways, tunnels, stations, depots, union depots, ferries, yards, grounds, terminals, terminal facilities, structures and equipment and all other real estate, fixtures and personal property of every kind used in connection therewith, owned, controlled, operated or managed for public use in the transportation of persons or property. - Town: includes cities and plantations, unless otherwise expressed or implied. See Maine Revised Statutes Title 1 Sec. 72
Any railroad corporation may locate, construct and maintain branch railroad tracks to any railroad station of another corporation or to connect with another railroad or to any mills, mines, quarries, gravel pits, log landing or yard, warehouses and storehouses, airports, piers, docks, shipyards, educational institutions or manufacturing establishments erected, or in process of erection, in any town or township through which the main line of that railroad is constructed, but not within any city without the consent of the city government and for that purpose the corporation shall have all the powers and rights granted and be subject to all the duties imposed upon it by its charter.
