Terms Used In Maine Revised Statutes Title 24-A Sec. 1910

  • Charges: means any compensation paid by a plan sponsor, health care service plan, health maintenance organization or insurer for services performed by the administrator. See Maine Revised Statutes Title 24-A Sec. 1901
  • Contributions: means the value of funds that have been provided or are to be applied by a plan sponsor or other entity to fund the self-insured portion of any plan, or premiums charged to a plan sponsor or other entity by an insurer for coverage under contracts of insurance or excess insurance. See Maine Revised Statutes Title 24-A Sec. 1901
  • United States: includes territories and the District of Columbia. See Maine Revised Statutes Title 1 Sec. 72
Nothing in this chapter may be construed to permit any person or entity to receive or collect charges, contributions or premiums for, or adjust or settle claims in connection with, any type of life or accident or health benefit, unless the person or entity is authorized through the insurance laws of a state or the Employee Retirement Income Security Act of 1974, 29 United States Code § 1001, et seq. as amended, to provide those benefits.
