As used in sections 2438 to 2445, unless the context otherwise indicates, the following terms shall have the following meanings. [PL 1979, c. 267, §2 (NEW).]
1. Insurer. “Insurer” means any life, health, casualty or property insurance company, fraternal benefit society, nonprofit health service corporation, nonprofit hospital service corporation, nonprofit medical service corporation, prepaid health plan, dental care plan, vision care plan, pharmaceutical plan, health maintenance organization and all similar type organizations.

Terms Used In Maine Revised Statutes Title 24-A Sec. 2439
- Contract: A legal written agreement that becomes binding when signed.
- Corporation: A legal entity owned by the holders of shares of stock that have been issued, and that can own, receive, and transfer property, and carry on business in its own name.
- health insurance: means insurance of human beings against bodily injury, disablement or death by accident or accidental means, or the expense thereof, or against disablement or expense resulting from sickness, and every insurance appertaining thereto, including provision for the mental and emotional welfare of human beings by defraying the costs of legal services only to the extent provided for in chapter 38. 2. Policy or policy form. “Policy” or “policy form” means any policy, contract, plan or agreement of life or health insurance or casualty or property insurance subject to chapter 39, subchapter II, or chapter 41, subchapter V, including credit life insurance and credit health insurance.

3. Superintendent. “Superintendent” means the Superintendent of Insurance.
