- Cultural agencies: means the Maine Arts Commission, the Maine Historic Preservation Commission, the Maine Library Commission, the Maine State Museum Commission, the Maine Humanities Council, the Maine Historical Society and the Maine State Archives and programs of these organizations. - Directors: means the Director of the Maine Arts Commission, the Director of the Maine Historic Preservation Commission, the State Librarian, the Director of the Maine State Museum, the Director of the Maine Humanities Council, the Director of the Maine Historical Society and the State Archivist. See Maine Revised Statutes Title 27 Sec. 551
- Ex officio: Literally, by virtue of one's office.
- Guardian: A person legally empowered and charged with the duty of taking care of and managing the property of another person who because of age, intellect, or health, is incapable of managing his (her) own affairs.
- Indictment: The formal charge issued by a grand jury stating that there is enough evidence that the defendant committed the crime to justify having a trial; it is used primarily for felonies.
- Majority: when used in reference to age shall mean the age of 18 and over. See Maine Revised Statutes Title 1 Sec. 72
- Quorum: The number of legislators that must be present to do business.
- Trial: A hearing that takes place when the defendant pleads "not guilty" and witnesses are required to come to court to give evidence.
- Trustee: A person or institution holding and administering property in trust.
