Terms Used In Maine Revised Statutes > Title 32 > Chapter 49 - Plumbers

  • Amendment: A proposal to alter the text of a pending bill or other measure by striking out some of it, by inserting new language, or both. Before an amendment becomes part of the measure, thelegislature must agree to it.
  • Appeal: A request made after a trial, asking another court (usually the court of appeals) to decide whether the trial was conducted properly. To make such a request is "to appeal" or "to take an appeal." One who appeals is called the appellant.
  • Board: means the Plumbers' Examining Board appointed under section 3401. See Maine Revised Statutes Title 32 Sec. 3301
  • Bonds: means bonds of the bank issued under this chapter. See Maine Revised Statutes Title 30-A Sec. 5903
  • Capital reserve fund: means any capital reserve fund created or established as provided in section 6006, subsection 1?A. See Maine Revised Statutes Title 30-A Sec. 5903
  • Commissioner: means the Commissioner of Professional and Financial Regulation. See Maine Revised Statutes Title 32 Sec. 3301
  • Conviction: A judgement of guilt against a criminal defendant.
  • Department: means the Department of Professional and Financial Regulation. See Maine Revised Statutes Title 32 Sec. 3301
  • General fund: means the fund created or established as provided in section 6007. See Maine Revised Statutes Title 30-A Sec. 5903
  • Journeyman plumber: means any person who customarily performs the work of installing plumbing and drainage under the employment and direction of a master plumber or, not being a master plumber, does plumbing repair work as a regular part-time occupation. See Maine Revised Statutes Title 32 Sec. 3301
  • Journeyman-in-training: means a person who is licensed under this chapter to assist in making plumbing installations under the direct supervision of a journeyman plumber or a master plumber who may not act as or represent that the person is a journeyman plumber, as defined in subsection 3. See Maine Revised Statutes Title 32 Sec. 3301
  • Limited license: means a limited plumber's license to install and service plumbing work related to a specific type of plumbing equipment or to specific plumbing installations granted to any person who has passed a satisfactory examination before the board. See Maine Revised Statutes Title 32 Sec. 3301
  • Master plumber: means any individual qualified under this chapter engaging in or about to engage in the business of installing plumbing or plumbing systems. See Maine Revised Statutes Title 32 Sec. 3301
  • Notes: means any notes of the bank issued under this chapter. See Maine Revised Statutes Title 30-A Sec. 5903
  • Partnership: A voluntary contract between two or more persons to pool some or all of their assets into a business, with the agreement that there will be a proportional sharing of profits and losses.
  • Pleadings: Written statements of the parties in a civil case of their positions. In the federal courts, the principal pleadings are the complaint and the answer.
  • Reserve fund: means the Maine Municipal Bond Bank Reserve Fund created or established as provided in section 6006. See Maine Revised Statutes Title 30-A Sec. 5903
  • Trainee plumber: means any person who is engaged in assisting in making plumbing installations under the direct supervision of one or more licensed journeyman plumbers or licensed master plumbers, whether for the purpose of learning the trade or otherwise. See Maine Revised Statutes Title 32 Sec. 3301
  • Trial: A hearing that takes place when the defendant pleads "not guilty" and witnesses are required to come to court to give evidence.
  • Verdict: The decision of a petit jury or a judge.
