There is established a Department of Corrections to be responsible for the direction and general administrative supervision, guidance and planning of adult and juvenile correctional facilities and programs within the State. [PL 1983, c. 459, §6 (NEW).]

Terms Used In Maine Revised Statutes Title 34-A Sec. 1202
- Adult: means a person who has attained the age of 18 years. See Maine Revised Statutes Title 1 Sec. 72
- Commissioner: means the Commissioner of Corrections or his designee, except that, when the term "commissioner and only the commissioner" is used, the term applies only to the person appointed Commissioner of Corrections and not to any designee. See Maine Revised Statutes Title 34-A Sec. 1001
- Department: means the Department of Corrections. See Maine Revised Statutes Title 34-A Sec. 1001
2. Commissioner. The department is under the control and supervision of the Commissioner of Corrections.
