Terms Used In Maine Revised Statutes Title 35-A Sec. 9214
- Authority: means the ConnectMaine Authority established in section 9203. See Maine Revised Statutes Title 35-A Sec. 9202
- Jurisdiction: (1) The legal authority of a court to hear and decide a case. Concurrent jurisdiction exists when two courts have simultaneous responsibility for the same case. (2) The geographic area over which the court has authority to decide cases.
- United States: includes territories and the District of Columbia. See Maine Revised Statutes Title 1 Sec. 72
The authority may not establish or collect a franchise fee pursuant to 47 United States Code § 542 or Title 30?A, section 3008. If any tax, fee, charge or assessment or portion thereof established by the authority is held by a court of competent jurisdiction to be a franchise fee, the imposition of that tax, fee, charge or assessment or portion thereof is unenforceable.
