- Agreement: means the Streamlined Sales and Use Tax Agreement. See Maine Revised Statutes Title 36 Sec. 7122
- Beneficiary: A person who is entitled to receive the benefits or proceeds of a will, trust, insurance policy, retirement plan, annuity, or other contract. Source: OCC
- Certified automated system: means software certified jointly by the states that are signatories to the agreement to calculate the tax imposed by each jurisdiction on a transaction, determine the amount of tax to remit to the appropriate state and maintain a record of the transaction. - Certified service provider: means an agent certified jointly by the states that are signatories to the agreement to perform all of the seller's sales tax functions. See Maine Revised Statutes Title 36 Sec. 7122
- Fiscal year: The fiscal year is the accounting period for the government. For the federal government, this begins on October 1 and ends on September 30. The fiscal year is designated by the calendar year in which it ends; for example, fiscal year 2006 begins on October 1, 2005 and ends on September 30, 2006.
- Fraud: Intentional deception resulting in injury to another.
- Jurisdiction: (1) The legal authority of a court to hear and decide a case. Concurrent jurisdiction exists when two courts have simultaneous responsibility for the same case. (2) The geographic area over which the court has authority to decide cases.
- Notice: means written notification served personally, sent by certified mail or sent by first-class mail to the last known address of the person for whom the notification is intended. See Maine Revised Statutes Title 36 Sec. 111
- Person: means an individual, firm, partnership, association, society, club, corporation, financial institution, estate, trust, business trust, receiver, assignee or any other group or combination acting as a unit, the State or Federal Government or any political subdivision or agency of either government. See Maine Revised Statutes Title 36 Sec. 111
- Personal property: All property that is not real property.
- Probable cause: A reasonable ground for belief that the offender violated a specific law.
- Sales tax: means the tax imposed by section 1811. See Maine Revised Statutes Title 36 Sec. 7122
- Seller: means any person making sales, leases or rentals of personal property or services. See Maine Revised Statutes Title 36 Sec. 7122
- State: means any state of the United States or the District of Columbia. See Maine Revised Statutes Title 36 Sec. 7122
- Tax: means the total amount required to be paid, withheld and paid over or collected and paid over with respect to estimated or actual tax liability under this Title, any credit or reimbursement allowed or paid pursuant to this Title that is recoverable by the assessor and any amount assessed by the assessor pursuant to this Title, including any interest or penalties provided by law. - Taxpayer: means any person required to file a return under this Title or to pay, withhold and pay over or collect and pay over any tax imposed by this Title. See Maine Revised Statutes Title 36 Sec. 111
- United States: includes territories and the District of Columbia. See Maine Revised Statutes Title 1 Sec. 72
- Use tax: means the tax imposed by section 1861. See Maine Revised Statutes Title 36 Sec. 7122
