Terms Used In Maine Revised Statutes Title 37-B Sec. 784-B

  • Emergency management: means the coordination and implementation of an organized effort to mitigate against, prepare for, respond to and recover from a disaster. See Maine Revised Statutes Title 37-B Sec. 703
  • Jurisdiction: (1) The legal authority of a court to hear and decide a case. Concurrent jurisdiction exists when two courts have simultaneous responsibility for the same case. (2) The geographic area over which the court has authority to decide cases.
  • Political subdivision: means counties, cities, towns, villages, townships, districts, authorities and other public corporations and entities organized and existing under charter or general law. See Maine Revised Statutes Title 37-B Sec. 703
All political subdivisions within the State are covered by the Maine First Responders State-wide Mutual Aid Agreement, dated November 2008, as drafted by the agency and referred to in this section as “the agreement,” except that a political subdivision may withdraw from the agreement by enacting a local ordinance that withdraws from the agreement. A local first responder agency may provide emergency management, fire, law enforcement, emergency medical, public works and other emergency services as necessary upon the request of any political subdivision within the State in accordance with the agreement. Additional preexisting contracts or agreements with the jurisdiction requesting the services are not required. [PL 2009, c. 175, §1 (NEW).]
