- Jurisdiction: (1) The legal authority of a court to hear and decide a case. Concurrent jurisdiction exists when two courts have simultaneous responsibility for the same case. (2) The geographic area over which the court has authority to decide cases.
- Person: includes an individual, receiver, trustee, guardian, personal representative, fiduciary, representative of any kind, corporation, partnership, business trust, statutory trust, limited liability company, firm, association, or other nongovernmental entity. See
- state: means :
(1) a state, possession, territory, or commonwealth of the United States; or
(2) the District of Columbia. See
(b) “Court” means a court of competent jurisdiction of the State, whether or not a court of record.
(c) “Person in emergency management service” means a person who, during the emergency period to which this subtitle is applicable, is a member of or works for the Department or a local emergency management organization.
(d) “Person suffering injury or damage” means a person who, during the emergency period to which this subtitle is applicable:
(1) suffers serious personal injury;
(2) suffers extensive damage to property owned by the person; or
(3) has an immediate family member who:
(i) dies;
(ii) suffers serious personal injury; or
(iii) suffers extensive damage to property owned by the family member.
