Section 45. Any town may acquire, by purchase or otherwise, in the manner in which land may be acquired for school purposes, real estate for the purpose of carrying on, under the direction of the agents or instructors of said trustees, demonstration work in agriculture and homemaking, and may appropriate money to be expended by said trustees under sections forty to forty-three, inclusive, or for the purpose of enabling the trustees to acquire necessary real estate, or for the support of demonstration work, under the direction of the agents or instructors or of the trustees, on land owned by the town or by any resident thereof.
