- Amendment: A proposal to alter the text of a pending bill or other measure by striking out some of it, by inserting new language, or both. Before an amendment becomes part of the measure, thelegislature must agree to it.
- state: when applied to the different parts of the United States, shall be construed to extend to and include the District of Columbia and the several territories belonging to the United States; and the words "United States" shall be construed to include the district and territories. If the charter or any amendment thereto of any district incorporated under the provisions of this act be approved, then 2 printed copies thereof with the vote for and against duly certified by the secretary of the commission, shall, within 30 days after the vote is taken, be filed with the secretary of state and a like number with the county clerk or clerks of the county or counties in which the district is located and shall thereupon become law.
