Terms Used In Michigan Laws 168.84

  • Oath: A promise to tell the truth.
  • oath: shall be construed to include the word "affirmation" in all cases where by law an affirmation may be substituted for an oath; and in like cases the word "sworn" shall be construed to include the word "affirmed". See Michigan Laws 8.3k
  • person: may extend and be applied to bodies politic and corporate, as well as to individuals. See Michigan Laws 8.3l
  • state: when applied to the different parts of the United States, shall be construed to extend to and include the District of Columbia and the several territories belonging to the United States; and the words "United States" shall be construed to include the district and territories. See Michigan Laws 8.3o
     Whenever a vacancy shall occur in the office of secretary of state or attorney general, the governor shall appoint a successor to fill such vacancy and the person so appointed shall take the oath of office, give bond in the manner required by law and shall hold such office until his successor is elected and qualified. The candidate receiving the highest number of votes for either of said offices who has subscribed to the constitutional oath and filed the requisite bond shall be deemed to be elected and qualified even though a vacancy occurs prior to the time he shall have entered upon the duties of his office.
