Terms Used In Michigan Laws 290.603
- NIST: means the United States Department of Commerce, National Institute of Standards and Technology. See Michigan Laws 290.602
- state: when applied to the different parts of the United States, shall be construed to extend to and include the District of Columbia and the several territories belonging to the United States; and the words "United States" shall be construed to include the district and territories. The system of weights and measures in customary use in the United States and the metric system of weights and measures are jointly recognized, and one or the other of these systems or both shall be used, for all commercial purposes in this state. The definitions of basic units of weight and measure, the tables of weight and measure, and weights and measures equivalents, as published by the NIST, are recognized and shall govern weighing and measuring equipment and transactions in this state.
