- Military: includes each armed force of the United States and each component of the state military establishment. See Michigan Laws 32.1002
- state: when applied to the different parts of the United States, shall be construed to extend to and include the District of Columbia and the several territories belonging to the United States; and the words "United States" shall be construed to include the district and territories. A person subject to this code who compels or attempts to compel the commander of a place, vessel, aircraft, or of other military property or of a body of members of the armed forces of the United States or of any other state or territory or of the state military forces to give the place, vessel, aircraft, or property up to an enemy or to abandon it, or who strikes the colors or flag to an enemy without proper authority, shall be punished as a court-martial directs.
