Terms Used In Michigan Laws 330.1644

  • Court: means the probate court or the court with responsibility with regard to mental health services for the county of residence of an individual with developmental disability, or for the county in which the individual was found if a county of residence cannot be determined. See Michigan Laws 330.1600
  • Guardian: A person legally empowered and charged with the duty of taking care of and managing the property of another person who because of age, intellect, or health, is incapable of managing his (her) own affairs.
     Upon termination of a guardianship, the developmentally disabled person regains all legal and civil rights that had been designated as legal disabilities or specifically granted to the guardian. This section applies to termination by expiration of the term of a guardianship and termination by court order under section 637(4)(b).
