Terms Used In Michigan Laws 338.3612
- Amateur: means any of following:
(i) An individual who is not competing and has never competed for a prize or who is not competing and has not competed with or against a professional for a prize. See Michigan Laws 338.3610Boxing: means the sport of attack and defense with fists, using padded gloves, in a square ring. See Michigan Laws 338.3610 Contestant: means an individual who competes in an unarmed combat contest or event. See Michigan Laws 338.3610 Event: means a program of unarmed combat that is planned for a specific date and time by a promoter and is subject to the approval of the department under this act. See Michigan Laws 338.3610 Professional: means an individual who is competing or has competed in unarmed combat for a prize. See Michigan Laws 338.3611 United States: shall be construed to include the district and territories. See Michigan Laws 8.3o
(1) This act does not apply to any of the following:
(a) Professional or amateur wrestling.
(b) An event that is conducted by or participated in exclusively by an agency of the United States government or by a school, college, or university or an organization that is composed exclusively of those entities if each contestant is an amateur.
(c) An event that is sponsored by or under the supervision of the United States Olympic Committee in which all of the contestants are amateur boxers.
(d) An amateur boxing event that is sponsored by or under the supervision of USA Boxing or any of the following organizations affiliated with USA Boxing:
(i) Golden Gloves Association of America Inc.
(ii) National Association of Police Athletic League.
(iii) National Collegiate Boxing Association.
(iv) Native American Sports Council.
(v) Silver Gloves Association.
(2) Boxing elimination contests regulated under section 50 are not subject to the other provisions of this act.
