Terms Used In Michigan Laws 37.2209
- Age: means chronological age except as otherwise provided by law. See Michigan Laws 37.2103
- Contract: A legal written agreement that becomes binding when signed.
- Gender identity or expression: means having or being perceived as having a gender-related self-identity or expression whether or not associated with an individual's assigned sex at birth. See Michigan Laws 37.2103
- National origin: includes the national origin of an ancestor. See Michigan Laws 37.2103
- Political subdivision: means a county, city, village, township, school district, or special district or authority of this state. See Michigan Laws 37.2103
- Sex: includes , but is not limited to, pregnancy, childbirth, the termination of a pregnancy, or a related medical condition. See Michigan Laws 37.2201
- Sexual orientation: means having an orientation for heterosexuality, homosexuality, or bisexuality or having a history of such an orientation or being identified with such an orientation. See Michigan Laws 37.2103
- state: when applied to the different parts of the United States, shall be construed to extend to and include the District of Columbia and the several territories belonging to the United States; and the words "United States" shall be construed to include the district and territories. See Michigan Laws 8.3o
A contract to which this state, a political subdivision, or an agency of this state or of a political subdivision is a party must contain a covenant by the contractor and the contractor’s subcontractors not to discriminate against an employee or applicant for employment with respect to hire, tenure, terms, conditions, or privileges of employment, or a matter directly or indirectly related to employment, because of race, color, religion, national origin, age, sex, sexual orientation, gender identity or expression, height, weight, or marital status. Breach of this covenant may be regarded as a material breach of the contract.
