- Conviction: A judgement of guilt against a criminal defendant.
- state: when applied to the different parts of the United States, shall be construed to extend to and include the District of Columbia and the several territories belonging to the United States; and the words "United States" shall be construed to include the district and territories. Every person who shall be guilty of any contempt specified in the preceding section shall also be deemed guilty of a misdemeanor, and on conviction thereof shall be punished by imprisonment in the state prison, not exceeding 5 years, or by imprisonment in the county jail, not exceeding 1 year, or by fine, not exceeding 1,000 dollars, or by both such fine and imprisonment in the county jail, in the discretion of the court.
