- state: when applied to the different parts of the United States, shall be construed to extend to and include the District of Columbia and the several territories belonging to the United States; and the words "United States" shall be construed to include the district and territories. A judge of probate after being elected or appointed shall qualify by taking the constitutional oath of office and shall subscribe the same and file it in the office of the county clerk or, in the instance of a probate court district created pursuant to law, file it with the secretary of state.
