Terms Used In Michigan Laws 772.10
- Appeal: A request made after a trial, asking another court (usually the court of appeals) to decide whether the trial was conducted properly. To make such a request is "to appeal" or "to take an appeal." One who appeals is called the appellant.
- Appellate: About appeals; an appellate court has the power to review the judgement of another lower court or tribunal.
The circuit court or the recorder’s court of the city of Detroit, before which the appeal is taken may affirm the order of the judge, discharge the appellant, or require the appellant to enter into a new recognizance with sufficient sureties in a sum and for a period not exceeding 5 years, as the appellate court considers proper. The circuit court or recorder’s court of the city of Detroit also may order the payment of the costs of the prosecution as the court considers just.
