- Jurisdiction: (1) The legal authority of a court to hear and decide a case. Concurrent jurisdiction exists when two courts have simultaneous responsibility for the same case. (2) The geographic area over which the court has authority to decide cases.

When a prisoner is transferred into a community placement facility of any kind, including a community corrections center, halfway house, or resident home, the department shall send notice of the transfer from the corrections management information system via the law enforcement information network to the sheriff and the Michigan state police post having jurisdiction over the county where the prisoner was originally sentenced, and to the local police department, the county sheriff and the Michigan state police post having jurisdiction over the community placement facility in which the prisoner is placed. The notice required under this section shall include the prisoner’s name, the name of the community placement facility, crimes for which the prisoner is serving a sentence, and any other information determined relevant by the department.
