- Accommodations: means the room or other space provided to transient guests for dwelling, lodging, or sleeping, including furnishings and other accessories, in a facility that is not a campground, hospital, nursing home, emergency shelter, or community mental health or community substance abuse treatment facility. See Michigan Laws 207.623
- Advice and consent: Under the Constitution, presidential nominations for executive and judicial posts take effect only when confirmed by the Senate, and international treaties become effective only when the Senate approves them by a two-thirds vote.
- Appeal: A request made after a trial, asking another court (usually the court of appeals) to decide whether the trial was conducted properly. To make such a request is "to appeal" or "to take an appeal." One who appeals is called the appellant.
- Board: means , in each article of this act that is related to a specific occupation or occupations, the board that is created in that article and composed principally of members of the regulated occupation or occupations, or the commission or other agency that is defined in or designated as the board for purposes of that article. - Board files: means the records, memoranda, opinions, minutes, and similar written materials that were formerly in the physical possession and control of a board abolished by this act and the records, memoranda, opinions, minutes, and similar written materials of a board created under this act. See Michigan Laws 339.5103
- Commercial housing facilities exemption certificate: means a certificate issued pursuant to sections 3, 4, and 5. See Michigan Laws 207.601
- Commission: means the state tax commission created by Act No. See Michigan Laws 207.601
- Competence: means a degree of expertise that enables an individual to engage in an occupation at a level that meets or exceeds minimal standards of acceptable practice for the occupation. See Michigan Laws 339.5103
- Convention facility: means 1 or more facilities owned or leased by a local governmental unit or metropolitan authority created under the regional convention facility authority act, 2008 PA 554, MCL 141. See Michigan Laws 207.623
- Corporation: A legal entity owned by the holders of shares of stock that have been issued, and that can own, receive, and transfer property, and carry on business in its own name.
- Department: means the department of licensing and regulatory affairs. See Michigan Laws 339.5103
- Director: means the director of the department of licensing and regulatory affairs or his or her authorized representative. See Michigan Laws 339.5103
- Disability: means an infirmity that prevents a board member from performing a duty assigned to the board member. See Michigan Laws 339.5103
- Ex officio: Literally, by virtue of one's office.
- Fiduciary: A trustee, executor, or administrator.
- General public: means each individual who resides in this state and is 18 years of age or older, other than an individual or the spouse of an individual who is licensed or registered in the occupation or who has a material financial interest in the occupation that is regulated by the specific article in which the term is used. - Lease: A contract transferring the use of property or occupancy of land, space, structures, or equipment in consideration of a payment (e.g., rent). Source: OCC
- License: includes the whole or part of a governmental permit, certificate, approval, registration, charter, or similar form of permission required under a specific article of this act. See Michigan Laws 339.5105
- Local governmental unit: means a county, township, city, village, or a metropolitan authority formed under the regional convention facility authority act, 2008 PA 554, MCL 141. See Michigan Laws 207.623
- Local governmental unit: means a city, village, or township. See Michigan Laws 207.601
- New facility: means a new structure which will have as its primary purpose multifamily housing consisting of 5 or more units and will be constructed in a downtown development district established pursuant to Act No. See Michigan Laws 207.601
- Occupation: means a field of endeavor regulated under this act. See Michigan Laws 339.5107
- Partnership: A voluntary contract between two or more persons to pool some or all of their assets into a business, with the agreement that there will be a proportional sharing of profits and losses.
- Person: means a natural person, partnership, limited partnership, fiduciary, association, corporation, limited liability company, or other entity. See Michigan Laws 207.623
- Person: means an individual, sole proprietorship, partnership, association, limited liability company, corporation, or common law trust or a combination of those legal entities. See Michigan Laws 339.5107
- Personal property: All property that is not real property.
- Public-private arrangement: means a public-private arrangement authorized under the regional convention facility authority act, 2008 PA 554, MCL 141. See Michigan Laws 207.623
- Quorum: The number of legislators that must be present to do business.
- Real property: Land, and all immovable fixtures erected on, growing on, or affixed to the land.
- Room charge: means the charge imposed for the use or occupancy of accommodations, excluding charges for food, beverages, telephone services, the use tax imposed under the use tax act, 1937 PA 94, MCL 205. See Michigan Laws 207.623
- state: when applied to the different parts of the United States, shall be construed to extend to and include the District of Columbia and the several territories belonging to the United States; and the words "United States" shall be construed to include the district and territories.
