- Allegation: something that someone says happened.
- Annuity: A periodic (usually annual) payment of a fixed sum of money for either the life of the recipient or for a fixed number of years. A series of payments under a contract from an insurance company, a trust company, or an individual. Annuity payments are made at regular intervals over a period of more than one full year.
- Assets: (1) The property comprising the estate of a deceased person, or (2) the property in a trust account.
- Authority: means a land bank fast track authority created under section 15, section 23(4), or section 23(5). See Michigan Laws 124.753
- Branch: means , except as otherwise provided in this subdivision, an office or other place of business at which a credit union receives deposits, pays checks, or lends money. See Michigan Laws 490.102
- Commissioner: means the director. See Michigan Laws 500.102

- Contract: A legal written agreement that becomes binding when signed.
- Corporation: A legal entity owned by the holders of shares of stock that have been issued, and that can own, receive, and transfer property, and carry on business in its own name.
- Credit union: means a domestic or foreign credit union. See Michigan Laws 490.102
- Department: means the department of military and veterans affairs. See Michigan Laws 35.1212
- Department: means the department of insurance and financial services. See Michigan Laws 500.102
- Deposition: An oral statement made before an officer authorized by law to administer oaths. Such statements are often taken to examine potential witnesses, to obtain discovery, or to be used later in trial.
- Director: means , unless the context clearly implies a different meaning, the director of the department. See Michigan Laws 500.102
- Domestic credit union: means a cooperative, nonprofit entity organized under this act for the purposes of encouraging thrift among its members, providing a variety of financial services to its members, and providing an opportunity for its members to use and control their own money on a democratic basis in order to improve their economic and social condition. See Michigan Laws 490.102
- Evidence: Information presented in testimony or in documents that is used to persuade the fact finder (judge or jury) to decide the case for one side or the other.
- families: means the military dependents as determined by the qualified individual's branch of service. See Michigan Laws 35.1212
- Federal credit union: means a credit union that is organized under the laws of the United States. See Michigan Laws 490.102
- Fiscal year: The fiscal year is the accounting period for the government. For the federal government, this begins on October 1 and ends on September 30. The fiscal year is designated by the calendar year in which it ends; for example, fiscal year 2006 begins on October 1, 2005 and ends on September 30, 2006.
- Foreign credit union: means a credit union organized under the laws of another state or territory of the United States or a federal credit union. See Michigan Laws 490.102
- Fund: means the military family relief fund created in section 3. See Michigan Laws 35.1212
- Guarantor: A party who agrees to be responsible for the payment of another party's debts should that party default. Source: OCC
- Health maintenance organization: means that term as defined in section 3501. See Michigan Laws 500.106
- in writing: shall be construed to include printing, engraving, and lithographing; except that if the written signature of a person is required by law, the signature shall be the proper handwriting of the person or, if the person is unable to write, the person's proper mark, which may be, unless otherwise expressly prohibited by law, a clear and classifiable fingerprint of the person made with ink or another substance. - Injunction: An order of the court prohibiting (or compelling) the performance of a specific act to prevent irreparable damage or injury.
- insurance contract: means a contract of insurance, indemnity, suretyship, or annuity issued or proposed or intended for issuance by a person engaged in the business of insurance. See Michigan Laws 500.116
- Insurer: means an individual, corporation, association, partnership, reciprocal exchange, inter-insurer, Lloyds organization, fraternal benefit society, or other legal entity, engaged or attempting to engage in the business of making insurance or surety contracts. See Michigan Laws 500.106
- Jurisdiction: (1) The legal authority of a court to hear and decide a case. Concurrent jurisdiction exists when two courts have simultaneous responsibility for the same case. (2) The geographic area over which the court has authority to decide cases.
- Liabilities: The aggregate of all debts and other legal obligations of a particular person or legal entity.
- Need: means an unforeseen situation that causes a temporary or short-term financial emergency or hardship that a grant under this act will resolve and for which an applicant can demonstrate the ability to meet expenses in the future. See Michigan Laws 35.1212
- Obligation: An order placed, contract awarded, service received, or similar transaction during a given period that will require payments during the same or a future period.
- Partnership: A voluntary contract between two or more persons to pool some or all of their assets into a business, with the agreement that there will be a proportional sharing of profits and losses.
- Person: means an individual, corporation, partnership, limited liability company, association, governmental entity, or any other legal entity. See Michigan Laws 490.103
- person: may extend and be applied to bodies politic and corporate, as well as to individuals. See Michigan Laws 8.3l
- Qualified individual: means an individual who meets all of the following criteria:
(i) The individual is or was a member of a reserve component of the United States armed forces or the United State coast guard based in this state or is a resident of this state serving in a reserve component of the United States armed forces or the United States coast guard based in another state and is called to active duty by the president of the United States or the United States secretary of defense as a result of national response to September 11, 2001 or as a response to a national emergency declared by the president of the United States and for which funds are being spent by the federal government. See Michigan Laws 35.1212Service of process: The service of writs or summonses to the appropriate party. state: when applied to the different parts of the United States, shall be construed to extend to and include the District of Columbia and the several territories belonging to the United States; and the words "United States" shall be construed to include the district and territories. See Michigan Laws 8.3o Tax reverted property: means property that meets 1 or more of the following criteria:
(i) The property was conveyed to this state under former section 67a of the general property tax act, 1893 PA 206, and subsequently was not sold at a public auction under former section 131 of the general property tax act, 1893 PA 206, except property described in former section 131 of the general property tax act, 1893 PA 206, that is withheld from sale by the director of the department of natural resources as authorized in that section. Unit: means a mobilized unit in which the qualified individual is in active federal service. See Michigan Laws 35.1212 United States: shall be construed to include the district and territories.
