- Affidavit: A written statement of facts confirmed by the oath of the party making it, before a notary or officer having authority to administer oaths.
- Arrest: Taking physical custody of a person by lawful authority.
- Beneficiary: A person who is entitled to receive the benefits or proceeds of a will, trust, insurance policy, retirement plan, annuity, or other contract. Source: OCC
- Charges: means the criminal complaint filed against the plaintiff by a county prosecutor or the attorney general on behalf of the people of this state that resulted in the conviction and imprisonment of the plaintiff that are the subject of the claim for compensation under this act. - Common law: The legal system that originated in England and is now in use in the United States. It is based on judicial decisions rather than legislative action.
- Complaint: A written statement by the plaintiff stating the wrongs allegedly committed by the defendant.
- Damages: Money paid by defendants to successful plaintiffs in civil cases to compensate the plaintiffs for their injuries.
- Discovery: Lawyers' examination, before trial, of facts and documents in possession of the opponents to help the lawyers prepare for trial.

- Fraud: Intentional deception resulting in injury to another.
- Identification for election purposes: means , if issued to the individual presenting the card or document and if presented for voting purposes the name on the card or document sufficiently matches the individual's name in the individual's voter registration record so as to accurately identify the individual as the registered elector, or if issued to the individual presenting the card or document and if presented for voter registration purposes, any of the following:
(i) An operator's or chauffeur's license issued under the Michigan vehicle code, 1949 PA 300, MCL 257. See Michigan Laws 168.2New evidence: means any evidence that was not presented in the proceedings leading to plaintiff's conviction, including new testimony, expert interpretation, the results of DNA testing, or other test results relating to evidence that was presented in the proceedings leading to plaintiff's conviction. See Michigan Laws 691.1732 Plaintiff: The person who files the complaint in a civil lawsuit. Plaintiff: means the individual making a claim for compensation under this act. Residence: as used in this act , for registration and voting purposes means that place at which a person habitually sleeps, keeps his or her personal effects, and has a regular place of lodging. See Michigan Laws 168.11 Settlement: Parties to a lawsuit resolve their difference without having a trial. Settlements often involve the payment of compensation by one party in satisfaction of the other party's claims. Spectator: means an individual who is present in a trampoline court only for the purpose of observing trampoline court activity, whether recreational or competitive. See Michigan Laws 691.1732 State correctional facility: means a correctional facility maintained and operated by the department of corrections. See Michigan Laws 691.1752 This state: means the state of Michigan and its political subdivisions, and the agencies, departments, commissions, and courts of this state and its political subdivisions. See Michigan Laws 691.1752 Trampoline court: means a defined area that contains 1 or more institutional trampolines or a series of institutional trampolines, a trampoline court foam pit, or a series of trampoline court foam pits. See Michigan Laws 691.1732 Trampoline court foam pit: means a combination style dismount pit designed with a rebound device, covered with loose impact-absorbing blocks used in a trampoline court intended for use in a commercial or institutional facility. See Michigan Laws 691.1732 Trampoliner: means an individual in a trampoline court for the purpose of trampolining. See Michigan Laws 691.1732 Trampolining: means tumbling or jumping in a trampoline court. See Michigan Laws 691.1732 Verdict: The decision of a petit jury or a judge.
