Subdivision 1.Commissioner’s responsibility.

The commissioner of transportation shall designate, establish and locate the Great River Road described in and authorized by section 161.142, with the approval of the Mississippi River Parkway Commission and, when the location is not on the trunk highway system, with the approval of the political subdivision having jurisdiction of the road.

Terms Used In Minnesota Statutes 161.148

  • Jurisdiction: (1) The legal authority of a court to hear and decide a case. Concurrent jurisdiction exists when two courts have simultaneous responsibility for the same case. (2) The geographic area over which the court has authority to decide cases.

The commissioner of transportation may designate, establish, locate and mark alternate routes of the Great River Road with the approval of the Mississippi River Parkway Commission upon highways of the trunk highway system and when not located upon the trunk highway system with the approval of the political subdivision having jurisdiction of the road.

Subd. 3.Expenditures limitation.

Funds shall not be expended on any alternate route or routes provided for by subdivision 2 except to the extent of any surplus in federal funds provided for the route designated under subdivision 1 or as provided by agreement with the United States government.
