Subdivision 1.Appointment; qualifications.
The department shall be under the supervision and control of a commissioner of veterans affairs who shall be appointed by the governor under the provisions of section 15.06. No person shall be eligible to receive appointment as commissioner unless that person has the following qualifications:

- Person: may extend and be applied to bodies politic and corporate, and to partnerships and other unincorporated associations. See Minnesota Statutes 645.44
- state: extends to and includes the District of Columbia and the several territories. See Minnesota Statutes 645.44
(1) residence in the state of Minnesota;
(2) citizenship in the United States;
(3) veteran of the armed forces of the United States as defined in section 197.447.
