- Writ: A formal written command, issued from the court, requiring the performance of a specific act.
The inquest of the jury shall be reduced to writing, signed by each of the jurors, and returned by the sheriff, together with the writ and a statement of the manner in which he executed it, into the court whence it issued, without delay.
