- Jurisdiction: (1) The legal authority of a court to hear and decide a case. Concurrent jurisdiction exists when two courts have simultaneous responsibility for the same case. (2) The geographic area over which the court has authority to decide cases.
- Oath: A promise to tell the truth.
- State: when applied to any of the United States, includes the District of Columbia and the territories, and the words "United States" includes such district and territories. See Missouri Laws 1.020
The treasurer shall not have possession or control of his office until he has taken the oath of office prescribed by the constitution and caused the same to be endorsed on his commission, and given the official bond required in section 30.020; and if he shall attempt under color of law to do or perform any official act or duty before complying with the provisions of this section, he shall forfeit five thousand dollars for the use of the state, to be recovered before any court of competent jurisdiction, without power in anyone to remit such forfeiture.
