Missouri Laws 374.717 – Prohibited acts
No insurer or licensee, court, or law enforcement officer shall:
(1) Pay a fee or rebate or give or promise anything of value in order to secure a settlement, compromise, remission, or reduction of the amount of any bail bond to:

- Arrest: Taking physical custody of a person by lawful authority.
- Bail: Security given for the release of a criminal defendant or witness from legal custody (usually in the form of money) to secure his/her appearance on the day and time appointed.
- order: as used in this chapter shall include a formal administrative direction or command of the director issued under this section or in any contested case subject to the provisions of section 536. See Missouri Laws 374.046
- person: as used in this chapter shall include any individual, partnership, corporation, association or trust, or any other legal entity. See Missouri Laws 374.046
- Settlement: Parties to a lawsuit resolve their difference without having a trial. Settlements often involve the payment of compensation by one party in satisfaction of the other party's claims.
(a) A jailer, police officer, peace officer, committing judge, or any other person who has power to arrest or to hold in custody any person; or
(b) Any public official or public employee;
(2) Pay a fee or rebate or give anything of value to an attorney in bail bond matters, except in defense of any action on a bond;
(3) Pay a fee or rebate or give anything of value to the principal or anyone on the principal’s behalf;
(4) Accept anything of value from a principal except the premium and expenses incurred, provided that the licensee shall be permitted to accept collateral security or other indemnity from the principal in accordance with the provisions of section 374.719.
