Terms Used In Missouri Laws 506.340

  • Affidavit: A written statement of facts confirmed by the oath of the party making it, before a notary or officer having authority to administer oaths.
  • Defendant: In a civil suit, the person complained against; in a criminal case, the person accused of the crime.
  • Plaintiff: The person who files the complaint in a civil lawsuit.
  • State: when applied to any of the United States, includes the District of Columbia and the territories, and the words "United States" includes such district and territories. See Missouri Laws 1.020
  • Summons: Another word for subpoena used by the criminal justice system.

Service shall be made by mailing a copy of the original summons to the secretary of state, and such service shall be sufficient; provided that a copy of the service shall be forthwith sent by registered mail to the defendant and the defendant’s return receipt and an affidavit of plaintiff or his attorney as to compliance herewith are filed in this action.
