- Pleadings: Written statements of the parties in a civil case of their positions. In the federal courts, the principal pleadings are the complaint and the answer.
All motions made shall be made within the time allowed for responding to the opposing party’s pleading or, if no responsive pleading is permitted, within twenty days after the service of the last pleading. Motions and pleadings may be filed simultaneously by the same party without waiver of the matters contained in either.
