Any two or more cities, towns or incorporated villages, whether of the same class or not and whether contiguous or not, may enter into a joint contract to acquire, install and operate a fire department for the joint benefit and protection of the property situated in said contracting municipalities and the lives of the inhabitants thereof, and to erect and maintain at such place as may be agreed upon a building for the housing of said fire department.
