- Acquire: when used in connection with a grant of power or property right to any person shall include the purchase, grant, gift, devise, bequest, and obtaining by eminent domain. See Nebraska Statutes 49-801

- Answer: The formal written statement by a defendant responding to a civil complaint and setting forth the grounds for defense.

- Boundary line bridge: shall mean any bridge upon which no toll, fee, or other consideration is charged for passage thereon and which connects the state highway systems of the State of Nebraska and an adjoining state in the same manner as an interstate bridge. See Nebraska Statutes 39-892

- Bridge structure: shall mean the superstructure and substructure of any interstate bridge having a span of not less than twenty feet between undercopings of extreme end abutments, or extreme ends of openings of multiple boxes, when measured along the centerline of the highway thereon, and shall be construed to include the supports therefor and all appurtenances deemed necessary by the department. - Construction: shall mean the erection, fabrication, or alteration of the whole or any part of any interstate bridge. See Nebraska Statutes 39-892
- Contract: A legal written agreement that becomes binding when signed.
- Conviction: A judgement of guilt against a criminal defendant.
- Damages: Money paid by defendants to successful plaintiffs in civil cases to compensate the plaintiffs for their injuries.
- Defendant: In a civil suit, the person complained against; in a criminal case, the person accused of the crime.

- Interstate bridge: shall mean the right-of-way, approaches, bridge structure, and highway necessary to form a passageway for highway traffic over the boundary line of the State of Nebraska from a point within the State of Nebraska to a point within an adjoining state for the purpose of spanning any obstruction or obstructions which would otherwise hinder the free and safe flow of traffic between such points, such bridge being a part of the state highway system with title vested in the State of Nebraska or in the State of Nebraska and an adjoining state jointly. - Jurisdiction: (1) The legal authority of a court to hear and decide a case. Concurrent jurisdiction exists when two courts have simultaneous responsibility for the same case. (2) The geographic area over which the court has authority to decide cases.
