The court may, without issuing a citation, appoint a guardian for the proposed protected minor if the petitioner is a parent who has sole legal and physical custody of the proposed protected minor as evidenced by a valid court order or birth certificate and who is seeking the appointment of a guardian for the minor child of the parent. If the proposed protected minor is a minor who is 14 years of age or older:

Terms Used In Nevada Revised Statutes 159A.049

  • Guardian: A person legally empowered and charged with the duty of taking care of and managing the property of another person who because of age, intellect, or health, is incapable of managing his (her) own affairs.

1.  The petition must be accompanied by the written consent of the minor to the appointment of the guardian; or

2.  The minor must consent to the appointment of the guardian in open court.
