If the defendant surrenders himself or herself to, is apprehended by or is in the custody of a peace officer in the State of Nevada or the Director of the Department of Corrections other than the officer to whose custody the defendant was committed at the time of giving bail, the bail may make application to the court for the discharge of the bail bond, and shall then give to the court an amount in cash or a surety bond sufficient in amount to guarantee reimbursement of any costs that may be expended in returning the defendant to the officer to whose custody the defendant was committed at the time of giving bail.
