Every person summoned as a juror who fails to appear without having a reasonable excuse, shall forfeit a sum, not exceeding $100, to be recovered by the district attorney, in any court of competent jurisdiction, and paid by the person into the county treasury.

- Jurisdiction: (1) The legal authority of a court to hear and decide a case. Concurrent jurisdiction exists when two courts have simultaneous responsibility for the same case. (2) The geographic area over which the court has authority to decide cases.
- Juror: A person who is on the jury.
