For cause, the magistrate or district court may, on its own motion or upon motion of the public defender or the indigent person, order the appointment of another attorney and refer the selection of the attorney in the manner set forth in NRS 7.115. Such an attorney:

- Appeal: A request made after a trial, asking another court (usually the court of appeals) to decide whether the trial was conducted properly. To make such a request is "to appeal" or "to take an appeal." One who appeals is called the appellant.
- county: includes Carson City. See Nevada Revised Statutes 0.033
- person: means a natural person, any form of business or social organization and any other nongovernmental legal entity including, but not limited to, a corporation, partnership, association, trust or unincorporated organization. See Nevada Revised Statutes 0.039
- Public defender: Represent defendants who can't afford an attorney in criminal matters.
1. May be other than, or in addition to, the public defender to represent such indigent person at any stage of the proceedings or on appeal in accordance with the laws of this state pertaining to the appointment of counsel to represent indigent criminal defendants.
2. Must be compensated out of county funds.
