In case the mayor or any municipal officer is adjudged guilty of nonfeasance, misfeasance or malfeasance by any court of competent jurisdiction he or she shall be fined in a sum not exceeding $1,000. The court in which such conviction shall be had shall enter an order removing such officer from office; and the officer shall not be eligible to any municipal office thereafter.
