Terms Used In Nevada Revised Statutes > Chapter 610 - Apprenticeships

  • Agreement: means a written and signed agreement of indenture as an apprentice. See Nevada Revised Statutes 610.010
  • Amendment: A proposal to alter the text of a pending bill or other measure by striking out some of it, by inserting new language, or both. Before an amendment becomes part of the measure, thelegislature must agree to it.
  • Appeal: A request made after a trial, asking another court (usually the court of appeals) to decide whether the trial was conducted properly. To make such a request is "to appeal" or "to take an appeal." One who appeals is called the appellant.
  • Apprentice: means a person who is covered by a written agreement, issued pursuant to a program with an employer, or with an association of employers or an organization of employees acting as agent for an employer. See Nevada Revised Statutes 610.010
  • Appropriation: The provision of funds, through an annual appropriations act or a permanent law, for federal agencies to make payments out of the Treasury for specified purposes. The formal federal spending process consists of two sequential steps: authorization
  • Complaint: A written statement by the plaintiff stating the wrongs allegedly committed by the defendant.
  • Conviction: A judgement of guilt against a criminal defendant.
  • Council: means the State Apprenticeship Council created by Nevada Revised Statutes 610.010
  • county: includes Carson City. See Nevada Revised Statutes 0.033
  • Disability: means , with respect to a person:

    (a) A physical or mental impairment that substantially limits one or more of the major life activities of the person;

    (b) A record of such an impairment; or

    (c) Being regarded as having such an impairment. See Nevada Revised Statutes 610.010

  • Evidence: Information presented in testimony or in documents that is used to persuade the fact finder (judge or jury) to decide the case for one side or the other.
  • Gender identity or expression: means a gender-related identity, appearance, expression or behavior of a person, regardless of the person"s assigned sex at birth. See Nevada Revised Statutes 610.010
  • Guardian: A person legally empowered and charged with the duty of taking care of and managing the property of another person who because of age, intellect, or health, is incapable of managing his (her) own affairs.
  • Jurisdiction: (1) The legal authority of a court to hear and decide a case. Concurrent jurisdiction exists when two courts have simultaneous responsibility for the same case. (2) The geographic area over which the court has authority to decide cases.
  • Oath: A promise to tell the truth.
  • Obligation: An order placed, contract awarded, service received, or similar transaction during a given period that will require payments during the same or a future period.
  • person: means a natural person, any form of business or social organization and any other nongovernmental legal entity including, but not limited to, a corporation, partnership, association, trust or unincorporated organization. See Nevada Revised Statutes 0.039
  • population: means the number of people in a specified area as determined by the last preceding national decennial census conducted by the Bureau of the Census of the United States Department of Commerce pursuant to Section 2 of Nevada Revised Statutes 0.050
  • Probation: A sentencing alternative to imprisonment in which the court releases convicted defendants under supervision as long as certain conditions are observed.
  • Program: means a program of training and instruction as an apprentice in an apprenticeable occupation, as defined in Nevada Revised Statutes 610.010
  • Quorum: The number of legislators that must be present to do business.
  • Race: includes traits associated with race, including, without limitation, hair texture and protective hairstyles. See Nevada Revised Statutes 610.010
  • Remainder: An interest in property that takes effect in the future at a specified time or after the occurrence of some event, such as the death of a life tenant.
  • Reporter: Makes a record of court proceedings and prepares a transcript, and also publishes the court's opinions or decisions (in the courts of appeals).
  • Sexual orientation: means having or being perceived as having an orientation for heterosexuality, homosexuality or bisexuality. See Nevada Revised Statutes 610.010
  • State Apprenticeship Director: means the person appointed pursuant to Nevada Revised Statutes 610.010
  • Testify: Answer questions in court.
